Inheritance rules

In Samply, properties of a "thing" can inherit properties of another "thing".

Projects

Because projects are the root of your Samply filesystem, they can't inherit from anything. However, you can configure default properties in your project template.

Files

By default, files in Samply take the name of the original file that was uploaded. You can edit this name at any time.

Note: Files downloaded to your computer will have the same name as the file that was uploaded. We are considering changing this behavior so that the downloaded file will match the name as it appears in Samply.

Stacks

A stack has no name by default. Instead, it inherits its name from that of its primary version. This is the version that is ontop of the stack.

You can override this behavior by giving the stack a name. If the stack has a name, only that name will be displayed. You can clear the name at any time to return to the default behavior.

Players

The canonical player for your project will have no name by default. It will inherit its name from the project and change whenever the project name changes.

You can override this name from the web app by editing it in your player's options.

Artwork is also inherited and can be similarly overridden.
